We are delighted that you are considering baptism (often referred to as ‘christening’) for your child, or indeed for yourself. Baptism is the beginning of a journey of belonging to the Christian church as well as a special occasion. During the service the parents and godparents will make promises to bring up the child to know about the Christian faith and take part in worship. Children are always welcome at all St Oswald’s services and the All Age Worship on the second Sunday of the month particularly attracts a lot of young families. Pre-school children and their carers might like to go to Teddy Praise on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays in term time. This takes place in the Methodist Hall between 1.30pm and 3pm. Older children can enjoy learning with others at Sunday Club at 10am in the Memorial Hall on the 1st,3rd and 4th Sundays in term time. You can make arrangements for your baptism by speaking to the Vicar or one of the churchwardens after the 10am service or by telephoning the Vicar on 01937 573975.
Adults asking about baptism may feel they want to explore confirmation at the same time so they can affirm their faith for themselves and enter fully into the life of the church. The Vicar will be happy to talk this through with you.
